She Was Pretty |K-Drama Review|

Ok, I finished it. I finally finished she was pretty after three days of binge watching. At first I was sure I wouldn’t like it as there were so many things that annoyed me but as I got further into the series, I completely fell in love with it.

She Was Pretty is a 2015 South Korean television series starring Hwang Jung-eum, Park Seo-joon, Go Joon-hee, and Choi Si-won. It’s a romantic comedy about two old school friends who meet up again in the present after many years of not seeing each other. When they were younger Kim Hye-jin (Hwang Jung-eum) was a popular, pretty girl from a rich family who befriended Ji Sung-joon (Park Seo-joon) who was unattractive, over weight and shy. Sung-Joon moves to America with his father leaving Hye-Jin behind. After this, her fathers company goes bankrupt causing her to experience hardships. She also lost her beauty too.

Sung-Joon returns many years later wanting to meet Hye-Jin but is unable to recognise her, he has grown to be a very attractive young man and she grew to get frizzy hair and a skin condition which causes her cheeks to be red constantly. Hye-Jin feels ashamed due to this so hides as she doesn’t want to ruin his perception of her. He asks her best friend Ha-Ri (Go Joon-hee) to stand in for her as she is tall, elegant and beautiful.

Things begin to get complicated for Hye-Jin as she gets an internship at The Most magazine and who does the deputy chief editor happen to be? None other than Sung-Joon! He openly mistreats and belittles her publicly not knowing who she really was. During the series Ha-ri continues to meet with Sung-Joon and begins to develop feelings for him. During Hye-Jins time in the workplace she finds a good friend in Shin-hyuk (Siwon) who falls in love with her.

The ending I would say was kind of unpredictable. I was expecting Ha-Ri and Sung-Joon to be together and Hye-Jin and Shin-Hyuk to be together as they were so well suited and Shin-Hyuk was so nice toward Hye-Jin from the very start. He tells her shes pretty and looks after her, I really shipped this couple. As time goes on, Sung-Joon beings to develop feelings for Hye-Jin without knowing who she is and vice versa. He also finds out that Ha-Ri had been lying to him all the time and realises that the real Hye-Jin was in fact the Hye-Jin he was so cruel to at work.

At the start of the series, I really disliked Sung-Joon as he was so mean but as she showed his softer side to Hye-Jin I really started to like his character and wanted them to be together.

A lot takes place in the last few episodes of this drama. Shin-Hyuk confesses to Hye-Jin but she doesnt believe him. He also turns out to be the famous author Ten. You are led to believe that he is actually the company chairman’s son but that turns out to be Kim Poong-ho, another colleague in The Most magazine. Shin-Hyuk kept his identity a secret as he wanted to write but enjoy his life but gave up his identity to save the magazine.

Hye-Jin becomes an author and marries Sung-Joon (happy ending! YAY!) and Ha-Ri goes to college and gets a job at a hotel with her own skills as she led a comfortable life due to her rich father and wanted to see if she could get by on her own.

I absolutely loved this drama, like I said in my previous post about it (you can read it here), Hye-Jin was very annoying to begin with, she was screechy and never spoke properly but as time went on she mellowed out quite a bit and became a very likeable character.

My faveourite character was Shin-Hyuk as he was honest and lived for winding people up, I guess I can relate to him in a way! Most of his scenes were hilarious!!

I’d really recommend this drama if you’re looking for something funny and romantic. I absolutely loved it and am sad that it’s over.

I hope you enjoyed my review! Are there any dramas you’d recommend? Comment blow!

K-Drama First Thoughts |She Was Pretty|#7

So I’ve recently decided to talk more about my Korean obsessions (K-dramas being one of them) and decided I’d start it with this K-drama.

I’m not going to go too much in depth with the story, I’ll leave that for my review, so I’ll talk about the characters and the current grasp I have on the story line. There are four main characters, the first being a character called Kim Hye-Jin, the second being Ji Sung-Joon. Third, Min Ha-Ri and fourth Kim Shin-Hyuk

I’ll start with Hye-Jin. At the moment, her character really really annoys me. She overreacts and awful lot and ends up in situations that are very unrealistic. You also very rarely hear her talk normally, she shouts and screeches quite a lot. I don’t think it ruins the drama but it does get quite annoying after a while as her friend Min Ha-Ri (the third main character) seems perfectly normal and realistic.

I find Sung-Joon has multiple personalities in this drama. When he is in the workplace he is very cold. He is especially mean towards Hye-Jin but I feel like this is because her character is really OTT. When he is with Ha-Ri, he is very warm and kind he becomes very likeable. I am currently on ep 7 and at this point he seems so be warming up towards Hye-Jin and there feels like there is a bit of chemistry developing between them.

Ha-Ri is Hye-Jins best friend and room mate is is stunning and sophisticated. At the start of the drama is goes undercover as Hye-Jin to Meet Sung-Joon as Hye-Jin feel she is not god enough to be sene by him. At my current point in the drama, Ha-Ri seems to be developing feelings for Sung-Joon and they seem very well matched towards each other. She also has awesome fashion sense!!

Kim Shin-Hyuk is the last main character and is Hye-Jins colleague. I think the drama is edging for there to be romance between them but at the moment there seems to be absolutely no chemistry between them. Did I forget to mention that Shin-Hyuk is played by Siwon from Super Junior! I love his character though as he is very happy and bouncy. He is also very funny with the way he winds everyone up.

Next, the story. Getting straight to the point, Hye-Jin and Ji-Sung were childhood friends. Her being a very pretty young girl and him being fat with nobody liking him. After Hye-Jin sees him being bullied she vows to be his friend and take care of him. You then find out that his mother recently died and he beings to panic about it on the bus ride home. He cries to get off and Hye-Jin follows him, eventually calming him telling him she  will be his umbrella. Sung-Joon eventually emigrates with his father leaving Hye-Jin behind.

Many years later, Hye-Jins fathers company went under and they were no longer rich. She also hit her puberty stages where she inherited her fathers pretty hair and skin condition (pink scarred cheeks). Sung-Joon comes back wanting to meet with Hye-Jin but upon seeing him she feels ashamed of herself so she asks her friend Ha-Ri to pretend to be her. He is also taking over a Magazine company Hye-Jin is working at and takes the role as her boss.

Fast forward and Sung-Joon is falling for Ha-Ri (who he things is Hye-Jin) and she is falling for him, and he is a complete ass to the real Hye-Jin insulting her constantly. Shin-Hyuk is slowly falling for the real Hye-Jin and Hye-Jin has feelings toward Sung-Joon.

I have no idea where this drama is headed but I’m really looking forward to finding out!

If you’re looking for a romantic comedy drama with fun characters, I’d definitely recommend this one!

Thanks for reading! xoxoxoxox

7 Day Post Challenge

All these challenges are coming about quite often now and I absolutely love doing them. I love doing them so much that I decided to create my own(forgive me if this idea has already been done)!

I sat for a while trying to figure out what I could do that would actually be a challenge for me and decided that I could do a post a day for seven days, as you should all know that I’m terrible at posting regularly.

So as of tomorrow I will be posting daily for seven days and I’m going to tag Emmimori to start it too.

The rules? there are none, just have fun! All you have to do is tag another blogger to pass it on!

Happy posting!!

My Top 5 BTS Songs

BTS otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys probably have to be my all time favourite K-pop Boy group at the moment. They have brought out so many great songs that I have decided to narrow them all down to my top 5. If you’re new to K-pop and BTS, these songs will be great for you to start with. If not, what are your favourite songs?

  1. Dope

This was the first song I had heard from this group. It was actually the pictures they took for the teasers that got me curious. They’re all dressed up in this video and the outfits are great! Rapmon I think is a pilot (correct me if I’m wrong). Jungkookie is a police officer. Jimin I can only assume is an office worker? J-Hope I’m pretty sure is a racecar driver. Suga (again, correct me if I’m wrong) I think is an army officer. V is a detective (the huge magnifying glass gave that one away), and Jin is an adorable doctor. What can I say about this song and video, the choreography is amazing (and very hard to learn) and the song itself is so catchy!

  1. I Need U

I Need U is my number 4 as it’s such a nice song to listen to. It has some similar traits to Run as Jimin is in the bath (I’m sure no one has any complaints about that) and the train carts I think are the same. The endings are also slightly similar as they are all laying on each other, the only difference in I Need U is that they are all sleeping.

  1. Run

You might have guessed this made the list as I mention it in my number 4. This music video starts out with an intro (quite a few of their videos do). I also noticed that their fashion is awesome! This video alternated between happy and sad, one minute they’re pillow fighting, next Suga and Jungkookie are fighting. They also spend quite some time running in different scenes (I’m assuming this is because the song is titled run…)

  1. Fire

This track is still relatively new and actually made it to the UK charts!! Well done BTS!! This is such an upbeat song and the music video matches it so well. My fiance isn’t into K-pop but this song is one that he requests. I find it has a bit of humor to it with either Suga setting someone alight, Jin being ironed, or the boys going crazy over kitchen hobs.

  1. Blood, Sweat and Tears

This is my all time favourite song. These guys absolutely slayed it and the dancing! OHMIGOD!!!!! It’s quite a creative video and it begins in a museum. I also noticed that the table scene is very similar to EXO’s Monster. The ending is a bit odd as Jin is kissing an angel statue, but I loved the video regardless. Also, anyone else notice Taehyun’s Pyjamas?

So there you have it, my top 5 BTS songs. If you want to know more about Jimin, Kookie, Rapmon, V, Jin, J-Hope, and Suga, subscribe for some upcoming BTS Facts (work in progress). My Favourite Big Bang Tracks!!

These guys are like the kings of Kpop. They were one of the first groups I listened to and remain my favourite to this day. It was hard narrowing down my favourite songs to 5 but after a lot of decisions and arguing with myself, I finally made a list (which is in no particular order).

First up is ‘cafe’. There isn’t a video for this song nor is it a very well known one but it is definitely a favourite of mine!

Another is ‘Loser’. I heard that this song was about problems each member has encountered, hence their roles in the music video. I’m not sure if it’s true but it’s a great song regardless.

Another relatively new one which I love is ‘Bae Bae’. From what I understand, this song is about sex. If you watch the video you’ll probably come to that conclusion too.

After ‘Bae Bae’, ‘Bang Bang Bang’ came out (all the Bs and repititions, eh?) which is another great song! Every time it hits the chorus, I just have to sing along.

Last but not least is ‘Tonight’. This is an older song of theirs, It came out in 2011, I think. (I only know this as G Dragon mentions it in the beginning).

OK, I know I said This post would have a list of 5 songs, but I really struggled to narrow it down to 5 so I decided my 6th choice would be a bonus track! Last on my list, drum roll please, is Fantastic baby. This has to be the best song in the world. I’ve converted so many people over to Kpop with it! Once you listen to it you’ll randomly find yourself singing “WOW, FANTASTIC BABY” and “BOOM SHAKA LAKA”, I guarantee it!

What are your favourite BigBang songs? Let me know in the comment section below.

My favourite Infinite Songs!

If you keep up to date with my blog you’ll know that I’m a massive Kpop fan. I wrote a post a while back about my all time favourite Kpop songs (you can read it here if you haven’t already), and so I decided to write another about my favourite songs from a specific group.

If you haven’t heard of infinite, you have been missing out! They are probably one of my favourite Kpop groups! I’m not sure how long they’ve been going for, but they are the best.

So without further ado, here are my favourite infinite songs in no particular order:

First on my list is ‘paradise’. This is quite an old song of theirs but I only heard it recently.

Next up is ‘Bad’. This is their newest song and is definitely my favourite. The video is awesome too! (Though I’ve only just realised that in the beginning in the chase scene, he’s being chased by himself…nice attention span, Carrie).

Another is BTD (Before the Dawn).

One of the first songs I had heard from them is ‘Back’ and it will always remain a favourite!

Last but not least is ‘The Chaser’.

Not only are these tracks great but the choreography is amazing too so if you have an interest in dance like myself, you’ll definitely enjoy it!
